If you have stories or memories about the Stella Maris Chapel, I would love for you to share them with me at stellamaris@michellebot.com. As I get more responses, I will update this page to include some of them, but here is an example of a story I already have. In my many hikes out to the Stella Maris Chapel, I found this letter sealed in a plastic bag on the stone altar. It reads: To whomever may read this: On April 11, 2003, a young man named Rick died in an act of love. As if in a long ago time, he requested the permission of his girlfriend Jessica's parents to take her on a moonlit picnic. His love for Jessica was greater than the lake before you and knew no bounds. He was going to surprise Jessica by bringing her to this spot and magically finding a blanket and picnic fare. The moonlit picnic, however, never happened. Rick was killed in a car accident on his way to set the scene. Jessica and her father came to this site that terrible evening to collect anything he may have prepared. When you finish reading this I ask that you look out over the lake, say a prayer for those affected by this tragic event, and learn to love those around you with the same boundless love Rick had for Jessica. And should this, by some strange reason, be a moonlit night think of Jessica's father trying to figure out how to "make it all better." WDA |
